- Coffee: Biotechnology companies have tested coffee plants engineered with altered caffeine content that can produce decaffeinated coffee beans for the public id approved for consumption.
- Fruit: Plant geneticists are testing fruits with GM variety including strawberries, pears, melons, apples, grapefruits, and watermelons with altered sugar content which may be entering local stores.
- Flowers: Petunias may become the first GM flowers in which researchers are currently producing tests for coloring and pesticide resistance.
- Corn: Biotech companies have filed more applications to plant varieties of GM corn in field test than any other crop and currently have altered compositions, seed color, starch content, and the ability to tolerate drought.
- Pizza: The ingredients found in pizza including cheese, wheat, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, are all included for GM varieties.
- Sushi:Rice from one of three crops has become one of the most modified in genetics with altered starch levels, pest resistance and edible nutrition. Salmon may as well become the first GM fish.
- Bananas:Bananas serve as a good storage vaccine media for edible vaccines, because their skin provides sterile barriers against contamination.
- Fries: Engineered potatoes absorb less oil when fried approved by food regulatory boards. Bio engineers are working to generate high preforming cooking oils such as peanut oil, sunflower oil, and soybean oil allowing fried foods to contain less saturated fats.
