Environmental Science: Toxins
Summary: In the article the authors describe how there are toxic chemicals not just outside of our homes, but they are also already inside our homes. The products everyday people use contain a lot of toxic chemicals. These toxins are especially dangerous to young children as their organs are still developing making them more vulnerable to the toxic consequences of the many toxins. People sometimes apply inappropriate pesticides directly to indoor surfaces, unaware that they are causing their own high exposure. Pesticides that break down within days outdoors can last for years in carpet where they're protected by degradation caused by the sunlight and bacteria. This discovery occurred after conducting research on the concentrations of toxic chemicals in 15 U.S States. Americans concern about toxic substances don't have to wait for their government to make these far reaching changes. Reducing exposure normally demands only modest alterations in one's daily routine

Reflection: After reading this article I think that people should be more aware of the type of products they use. Those products are what contain many chemicals and toxins that are very dangerous. People aren't as cautious as they should be when using these type of products, and they should be. They don't realize that there is such a thing as indoor pollution. More people should be reading the back of any type of products they use and buy to know if it's safe or not. I think that something like indoor pollution is a topic that should be be talked about on a daily basis, and should be implanted in everyone's brain whenever there about to use something or buy something. Now that we know of the possible dangerous chemicals lurking in our homes, we must take the necessary precautions needed. What we should do now is we need to spread the information around the world and keep people aware and educated about something as important and as serious as this.
