38. John Hanger, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection describes the natural gas drilling and extraction as a “trade-off”. Explain what the trade-off is. Do you believe this is a good trade? Natural gas is often described as a “transition fuel” and a cleaner-burning fossil fuel. Explain how these claims are incomplete. Given what you learned from this movie, is natural gas a fuel that we should explore and extract more of?
I believe this is not a good trade off as you are destroying water for good water. Claims of natural gas is a good transition and a cleaner burning fossil fuels because there is contamination going on during the fracking process. The lives of people are being destroyed as the chemicals and heavy metals that are result of the fracking are entering the water table contaminating water making it unusable for many people.
39. The Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals (FRAC) Act proposes to include hydraulic fracturing as an activity regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act. This law would require the industry to disclose all chemicals used in fracking. Do you think this law is fair and justified? Why might the gas drilling companies oppose this law? Explain your answer.
I think that the law is fair and justified, because fracking contaminates water and the Safe Drinking Water Act is used to regulate and to protect from water that is polluted and contaminated. Companies might oppose this law, because if the people find out that there if a lot of chemicals in use, the people might reconsider and decide not to lease because they are afraid that the chemicals might harm them.
40. This is a map of Pennsylvania, showing the major rivers and the towns of Dimock and Milanville. How would contamination of the water supply have consequences for the entire eastern part of the state, including Philadelphia?
Contamination of the water supply could drastically hurt the water supply for almost all of the eastern part of the state. Since all water is connected, since all water is connected, contamination in one river or stream is bound to travel to other river and streams contaminating the water.

41. The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission has released a statement explaining several inaccuracies it feels that the documentary portrays. The statement is available here: http://cogcc.state.co.us/library/GASLAND%20DOC.pdf
Briefly describe their statement on the following:
The Weld County Wells: The water supply of Mike Markham, Renee McClure, and Aimee Ellsworth that was allegedly said to have been contaminated by fracking, actually biogenic gas. This gas could have came from fracking, but on the Gasland website it doesn't suggest that the biogenic gas came from fracking.
The West Divide Creek Seeps: Gasland claimed that the West Divide Creek Seeps were caused by hydraulic fracking. After investigation, it was said that the gas migrating up a gas well borehole that wasn't properly cemented. The gas collected from the seep was concluded to be thermogenic.
42. If you owned a large parcel of land in the shale area, and were offered several thousand dollars per acre to lease the land for gas drilling, would you take the money? Explain your decision.
No, because the amount of money in the world wouldn't be enough to cause damage to the water that people in that area drink out of. I would feel guilty and sorry for the effects that the water would do to those innocent people.
Summary: After watching this video I have learned what fracking is and how bad it is around the U.S. Chemicals they use underground that are able to enter our water is terrifying. The fact that there are many people out there who have drank this type of water and have had all types of problems and effects is even worse. Not only is the water bad for you, but it is also flammable. Seeing how companies offer people thousands of dollars to lease their land for fracking is the worst thing about this. What I think should happen is to try to stop fracking period.
