Compare & Contrast Essay
Do you know what the effects are in the world when people pollute the environment and get rid of our natural resources? In the article “Easter’s End“, by Jared Diamond and the video “The Lorax“, explains many issues related to the world today. For instance polluting, creating animal extinction, and wasting natural resources. These two stories show examples of environmental problems that we face today. It relates to people in the real world by explaining how people don’t realize what they’ll do when they don’t think about what they do initially, and how it will affect the future.
Both “Easter’s End” and “The Lorax” hurt the environment by cutting down trees, using limited resources, creating the extinction of animals, deforestation, and destroying the ecosystem. Although, in the end they both tried to rebuild everything they destroyed and try to make things better again. In the video “The Lorax” the Once-ler chopped down all the truffula trees to make thneeds to sell for his business. In the article “Easter’s End” Easter islanders ran out of trees to use from moving statues and building canoes.
The issues in these two stories relate with the issues of the world today by showing what people face around the world. People make factories that pollute the air and the water. They also manufacture natural resources that are limited and take a long time to grow. For example in “The Lorax” the Once-ler ran out of truffula trees, which were natural resources. When he ran out of natural resources he loss his business, and caused all the animal to be extinct. In “Easter’s End” since all the trees were gone from building canoes and moving statues, the whole tree species ended up extinct.
Other issues that relate to what we face in the world today, is destroyed ecosystems. In “The Lorax” the animals were all extinct, and all the truffula trees were all chopped down. Also factories produced smog and sludge, and polluted the water. In “Easter’s End” the islanders ran out of palm trees (deforestation), which made the tree species extinct. They couldn't plant any more because rats started eating all the seeds from the gardens, shellfish were over-exploited, and running out of meat resulted in cannibalism. All these problems contributed to the loss of ecosystem diversity.
So what are the effects people create when they destroy our ecosystem? They cause animals to be extinct from pollution, and waste our natural resources for their businesses. People need to understand that the things they do might harm our environment. It can also harm our animals, people, and mainly the earth. I think the best way to help is to try to restore any area where the ecosystem has been ruined. I suggest the best was to not destroy our ecosystem is to think first, and see with the result will develop into.
